Relieving Holiday Stress With Chiropractic!

The holiday season can be a very stressful time for many. While there is so much to be grateful for, it is easy to get wrapped up in everything and forget to take care of your health. Extra stress can be particularly challenging for people with chronic pain conditions like a migraine and fibromyalgia.  Stress can make the pain worse. If you suffer from chronic pain, there are some easy ways to take charge of your health and feel good during the holiday season.
Exercise:  Not only has exercise been shown to ease stress, it can speed the recovery time of many pain conditions and injuries such as sciatica, fibromyalgia, and whiplash. It has also been shown to reduce the frequency and duration of migraines. Chait Chiropractic Center can help you find safe, effective ways to help you keep your energy level up.
Set your priorities:  There can be a huge demand on your time and attention during the holidays. Don’t feel pressured to do it all. Take some time to think about which holiday activities mean the most to you, and focus on those.
Take time for yourself:  With busy holiday schedules, people often forget to take breaks. Consider scheduling time for yourself to do something relaxing and enjoyable. Especially if the holidays are emotionally difficult of you, it’s important to take care of yourself and seek support when needed.
Shop till you drop:  Overdoing it when you are shopping by carrying bags or boxes that are too heavy for you can cause shoulder or elbow pain. Standing in long lines on concrete flooring can cause back and/or knee pain.  Be careful when shopping this holiday season to avoid injury, but know that Dr. Chait can put you back together so you don't have to miss those great deals!
Be mindful of your nutrition:  The holidays are full of food and drinking temptations. While it’s okay to indulge yourself in moderation, overeating or eating because of stress can make you feel worse in the end. Dr. Chait can advise you on healthy eating habits and nutrition.
Chiropractic Adjustments:  Finally, chiropractic itself can help you manage your pain and stress level. In fact, a research study https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11986575 in 2010 showed that chiropractic adjustments helped reduce levels of cortisol, a stress hormone known to cause inflammation and irritation.

Are You Suffering From Migraine Headaches?

If you get headaches, you are not alone. Do you know that 9 out of 10 Americans suffer from headaches? Some people get them more than others. Headaches may be dull or throbbing, while other times they can cause debilitating pain and nausea. What do you do when you suffer from a pounding headache? Do you lie down in a dark room? Pop a pill and hope the pain goes away? Do you grit your teeth and continue with your day? There is a better alternative!

Many times, migraines come with a tight feeling in the neck and around the temples. These are also known as tension headaches. Today, people are spending more time in a fixed position or posture such as sitting in front of a computer, Ipad or Iphone. This can increase joint irritation and muscle tension in the neck, upper back and scalp, causing your head to ache. Dr.Chait can address these issues with spinal manipulation or adjustments to improve spinal function and alleviate the stress on your system.

Chiropractic adjustments are not only great for helping reduce the severity of migraines, but regular chiropractic care can also help reduce the frequency of these migraines as well.  Don't you owe it to yourself to see how Chait Chiropractic Center can help improve your life?  Call us today at 941-371-1070 to schedule a complimentary posture analysis and consultation with Dr. Chait.

Individualized Chiropractic Care

Some people think that chiropractors treat neck and back pain only. While they do successfully treat these symptoms, there is much more to chiropractic care than just back and neck care. Chiropractic focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems and how they affect the rest of the body.
Chait Chiropractic Center practices a very specific corrective chiropractic technique called Chiropractic Biophysics (CBP). This is a full spine chiropractic technique  consisting of postural adjustments, mirror image exercises and in some cases, CBP traction. CBP is beneficial for a variety of musculoskeletal complaints like neck and low back pain as well as conditions such as headaches, migraines and TMJ.  People with chronic conditions such as osteoarthritis can benefit from this approach as well because it may help slow or stop the disease. Most importantly, chiropractic adjustments should be an essential part of a persons health care regimen to ensure that your nervous system is functioning optimally.
CBP is not a one size fits all approach. Each patient is evaluated for postural/vertebral subluxations. Vertebral subluxations can occur as the result of any physical, chemical, or emotional stress from everyday life or even during the birthing process. Dr. Chait will work to remove subluxations of the spine, allowing proper communication between the brain and body therefore restoring function to the nervous system. As a result many patient's experience improvements in a variety of conditions.  Call us today at 941-371-1070 to schedule a complimentary posture analysis and consultation with Dr. Chait.

Are You Suffering From Chronic Neck Pain?

Did you know that chronic neck pain is a common musculoskeletal condition that may effect an estimated 70% of persons at some point in their lives?

A 2012 U.S. study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine January 3, 2012  has revealed that patients receiving chiropractic treatment combined with exercise for chronic neck pain were twice as likely to become pain-free than those receiving medication.

The study followed 272 persons aged 18 to 65 years who had  neck pain for 12 weeks.  The patients were randomly assigned to one of three groups: 91 to the spinal manipulation therapy group, 90 to the medication group and 91 to the home exercise group.

The results of the study are encouraging for chronic pain sufferers who prefer not to take medication to manage their pain:

32% of those receiving only chiropractic care became pain-free

30% of those exercising became pain-free

13% of those treated with medication for chronic pain became pain-free.

For participants with neck pain, spinal manipulation was more effective than medication in both the short and long term.  Chiropractic care can play an important role in the assessment and management of chronic neck pain. If you or someone you know would like to consult with Dr. Chait on the effective relief of chronic pain through chiropractic treatment- call Chait Chiropractic Center at (941)371-1070.

A study was performed on 46 children under the age of 5 to determine if ear infections improved while under chiropractic care.  All treatments were done by a single chiropractor, who adjusted the misalignments found paying particular attention to the cervical vertebrae.
"Improvement was based on parental decision (they stated that the child had no fever, no signs of ear pain, and was totally asymptomatic), and/or the child seemed to be asymptomatic to the treating DC and/or the parent stated that the child's MD judged the child to be improved."
The results were that 93% of all episodes improved, 75% in 10 days or fewer and 43% with only one or two treatments.  In this published study found on Pub Med, https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8728460, the data indicates that limitation of medical intervention and the addition of chiropractic care may decrease the symptoms of ear infection in young children.
Dr. John Chait has been treating children in his chiropractic office for over 30 years.  If you have a child suffering from ear infections please call Chait Chiropractic Center at 941-371-1070 to schedule a complimentary consultation with Dr. Chait to see how chiropractic can help your loved one.

Cyclic vomiting syndrome (CVS), first described in children by Samuel Gee in 1882, is an increasingly commonly diagnosed disorder.  The disabling disorder is characterized by frequent, recurrent severe vomiting. It is associated with a family history of migraine, and children with CVS typically develop migraines as they age. Now a case study offers hope for families with children struggling with CVS.

The study followed a 7-year old girl who had lived with CVS for 4 ½ years. She also suffered from headaches and stomachaches over the past two months.

According to a study published in the US National Library of Medicine (abstract version) from the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine (full pdf study) “the patient received low-force chiropractic spinal manipulation to her upper cervical spine. There was improvement in her symptoms within an hour after the chiropractic manipulation. Her symptoms only returned after direct trauma to her neck. The recurring symptoms again disappeared immediately after treatment.” For further information on

“This case study suggests that there may be a role for the use of chiropractic spinal manipulative therapy for treating cyclic vomiting syndrome,” note the researchers. “Controlled studies are necessary to aid our understanding of this finding.”

If you or someone you know suffers from cyclical vomiting call Chait Chiropractic Center for a complimentary consultation with Dr. Chait to see if chiropractic can help.  Call us today at 941-371-1070.

Chronic pain such as from arthritis, sciatica or recurring migraines negatively impacts many areas of our daily life.  Traditional medicine usually chooses to treat pain with prescription medications. Treating this pain with medication only treats the pain. It does not resolve the root cause of the condition.  Do you know that this has led to a record number of people becoming addicted to pain medications?  Prescription drug abuse and addiction have become a significant problem in the United States. Researchers estimate that as many as 2.1 million people in the United States abuse opioids. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention reports that the percentage of patients getting drug therapy has increased to  75%. The National Institute on Drug Abuse states that " Stimulants such as Ritalin achieve their effects by acting on the same neurotransmitter systems as cocaine.  Opioid pain relievers such as OxyContin attach to the same cell receptors targeted by illegal opioids like heroin."
Drugs like morphine, hydrocodone, and oxycodone simply mask symptoms allowing the condition to remain in the body and potentially get worse.  Even when using opioids as prescribed, they can still negatively impact your life.  One example would be with that of a person suffering from sciatica. If this is a chronic condition and the person is prescribed pain medication, the patient may eventually develop a tolerance to the prescribed pain medication. The result is a need for higher and higher doses and a significantly increased risk of addiction. An alternative for taking opioid prescriptions is chiropractic care. More and more people are seeking treatment from a chiropractor to treat symptoms usually treated with prescription medications.
Chiropractic is an excellent pain management method that is not only effective but is noninvasive and drug-free. Chiropractic focuses on whole body wellness so patients learn how to take proactive steps to treat their condition.   Chiropractic care is also beneficial and safe for people of all ages, even children!  If you are suffering from chronic pain, call Chait Chiropractic Center at 941-371-1070 to get started on your path to wellness today.
