Is sitting at your desk damaging your back?

How many hours a day do you spend sitting versus standing? How many hours does your child spend sitting? If you sit, drive or watch TV for more than 2 hours a day you could be at risk for back pain.
Sitting can put up to 2 times the stress on the spine as standing does. Slouching when sitting, increases that pressure even more. Movement is important throughout the day as disks in the spine act as shock absorbers in the body.  If the body remains still, these disks do not receive the proper nutrition they need which may lead to tightness and pain. At least once every 30 minutes you should stand up and stretch in order to get the blood flowing throughout the body to reduces stress and pain.
Such unpleasant side effects of prolonged sitting include,  aching back, herniated or slipped disc, sciatica, puffy legs, fluid retention, constipation, and heart issues.
