Do you wake up in the morning with pain? One of the most frequent complaints we hear at Chait Chiropractic Center is, “I must have slept in the wrong position.”
Did you know there are certain sleep positions that are better for your back and the overall alignment of your spine than others?
You should sleep on your back to keep your spine in proper alignment. Do not use more than one pillow. You do not want to prop your head up into a forward head position. If you are a side sleeper, place a pillow between your knees to prevent your hips from leaning forward and twisting your spine while you sleep. You should not sleep on your stomach due to the increased amount of stress that it will put on your spine.
You should also have a firm mattress to stabilize your spine while sleeping. A bed that is too soft gives no support and places continual stress on the joints and ligaments of the spine.
