Can Scoliosis Be Prevented?

Scoliosis can be a difficult condition and cause both physical pain and emotional suffering. The sideways bending of the spine may begin with abnormal posture and it can end in deformity. If not treated it can progress and effect your heart, lungs and many other organs. The good news is that there can be help for people that suffer with scoliosis.

Scoliosis can occur from age 8 - 18 and occurs more often in females.  Some people are born with this spinal condition.  Others get it from bad posture, carrying backpacks, uneven leg length and different injuries. In many cases the cause is unknown. This is called Idiopathic Scoliosis.

In the early stages of child development an alert parent may notice that one shoulder is higher than the other, the head is slightly off center and clothes do not hang properly. Back and leg pain may develop but are often overlooked as merely "growing pains." Early detection is critical and neglect is the biggest danger with scoliosis. If allowed to advance, it can steadily worsen and severe cases may involve surgery. This procedure implants steel rods to the spine to force it to straighten.

Chiropractic care has helped many avoid the unhappy effect of scoliosis. The procedure is simple.  First, a thorough examination helps detect scoliosis in its' early stage. Then, corrective action can begin at once.  At Chait Chiropractic Center the primary course of care is a program of specific chiropractic adjustments, exercise and traction. These help improve the function and structure of the spine. Muscles strengthen. Posture can improve.

Chiropractic care has helped countless people  reclaim their health, posture and self esteem.  Why not come in to see what chiropractic care can do for you.  Call us at 941-371-1070 to schedule a complimentary consultation.

Are you one of the 45 million Americans complaining of headaches each year? Headaches not only cause extreme pain and suffering, they can impair your quality of life. Repeated headaches affects family life, social life and employment. There is a more natural solution for your headache pain. In a recent study done at the University of Maryland they found a connection between muscle tension at the base of the neck and headaches. This muscle tension often plays a contributing factor to headache pain.

The most common type of headache is the tension headache. It is estimated that 80 to 90 percent of the population suffer from tension headaches at least some time in their lives. The second most common type of headache is the migraine headache and these headaches can be debilitating. Around 16 to 17 percent of the population complain of migraines. The most painful headaches are cluster headaches. These headaches are very intense and appear in cycles that can last hours or days. They present with a sudden onset, and usually leave as quickly as they start.

At Chait Chiropractic Center our goal is to remove pressure on the nerves caused by spinal misalignments and to reduce tension in your neck. This strategy works for many headache sufferers, not only here in our office, but also in several clinical studies. One such study, conducted by the government of New Zealand found that the majority of people who suffered from spinal misalignments notice improvement in their condition and relief from the pain of headaches through chiropractic care. In follow-up studies of the same patients it was found that many were still without recurring headache pain after two years.

If you suffer from persistent headaches, you owe it to yourself to come into our office for a complimentary consultation and posture check. Call 941-371-1070 to schedule an appointment.

Stand Up Straight!!!

“Stand up straight!” is probably what your mother used to say to you when you were young. While the intention of encouraging proper posture is good, our spines are actually not supposed to be straight looking at it from the side. Your spine has natural curves that form an elongated S-shape from the side.  The spinal curves work like a spring to absorb shock, maintain balance, and to facilitate the full range of motion throughout the spinal column. Maintaining your spine's shape depends on proper posture. The shape of the spine and posture indicates the health of the spine.

Obtaining correct posture and keeping your spine in alignment are 2 of the most important things you can do for overall health and balance. Did you know that 1 out of 3 adults over 65 have falls each year? Every 11 seconds an older adult is treated in the emergency room for a fall and every 19 minutes an older adult dies from these injuries.

Awareness of proper posture leads to conscious correction. At Chait Chiropractic Center we practice Chiropractic BioPhysics (CBP). Unlike regular chiropractic that mainly focus on immediate pain relief, CBP goes one step further to also correct the source of the problem. That’s why most patients not only report relief from pain and discomfort, but as their posture begins to align they notice an improvement in their balance and other conditions clearing up as well. CBP chiropractors start with a scientifically-based examination of your posture, spinal alignment, and function – often involving x-rays as a way to pinpoint the root cause of your spinal misalignment. Once the source is identified, we will create a carefully-planned series of adjustments, exercises, and a spinal remodeling program to put you on a pain-free road to better health. Call us today at 941-371-1070 for a complimentary posture analysis and consultation with Dr. Chait. You owe it to yourself or a loved one to see if Chiropractic can help you live the life you were meant to be living.
